What part of a character is most important to you when making a shrine? The way the character is when introduced, the way said character was for the majority of the story or the final result?

Do you prefer shrining characters who change a lot or who seem to stay the same?

My replies will be in a comment. As always everyone is encouraged to participate with their own answers and to comment on other people's answers.

Of the shrines you own, which one is your favorite? Which one is your least favorite? I think our answers might surprise others...

One of my favorite things about shrines is how different each one can be. Webmasters put themselves into their work, by writing about personal experiences, things they have learned, or things that interest them. This is why there can be four or five shrines to one character, and each one be a unique, rewarding visit. I especially love when webmasters play with the format of shrines, putting a spin on something we're all used to. I was able to recognize what this webmistress did as soon as I stumbled upon this shrine, and it took me back to my high school years, and AP English. I was immediately a fan, and I read through the whole site in one sitting.

Thanks, Mikari, for nominating it, or I would have never discovered it! And thanks to the other members who nominated shrines this month: Aku, Ava, Chibi, Destinie, Dubiousdisc, and Saya.

Inspired by the previous discussion, here's another one.

Has your view on a character changed during the shrining process? Have the reasons why you like a certain character or find a character interesting shifted? Have you noticed things you didn't notice before that made you see the character in a new light?

Many have mentioned that they have shrined characters who are not their favorites because they are interesting. Have they become your favorites or come closer to it because of the shrine?

How did all of that affect the shrining process and end result?

My replies will be in a comment. Everyone is encouraged to post examples of their shrines and comment on other people's replies. :)

Another year, another season for input! Feel free to post any sites you've worked on between then and now, or any site you haven't put up for review yet. You can also just comment on other sites if you don't feel like putting up a site to be reviewed. This post will be linked on the sidebar, so check back any time this season to add sites or to review more.

Most importantly, have fun. This is a neat way to interact with other webmasters and to get feedback on your sites.

Sometimes we shrine characters because they are our favorites. Yet sometimes we shrine a character from the same series who is not our favorite because we find that character more interesting. Does that apply to you?

What shrines have you made that fit into any of the above mentioned situations? Have you ever made a shrine to a character you don't really like all that much, because it's an interesting character?

My own replies will be in a comment. :)

Hey all!

Back in the day, it was common to come across sites that had 2-5 webmasters. I frequented one that was ran by seven people. Today, that's less common. What are your thoughts on group projects?

Wow, so this update had been a long time coming. I've had this new layout sitting on my hard drive for months, along with some sections rewritten but I finally sat down and overhauled the entire shrine the past two days. Crazy me.

Somethings of interest:
- All new pictures in the written sections, better separated texy & paragraphs for easier reading. Things rewritten/reworded for better flow.
- Relena's pink limo section has been expanded (cause you all seem to love this part)
- 2 BRAND NEW sections: appearance and voice
- Replaced all the old, ugly Endless Waltz caps with pretty remastered versions & BluRay movie versions.
- Made a legit site section finally

All I have left to do is add the new material from the novel & manga currently running in Gundam ACE. (Anyone else reading Frozen Teardrop??)

Okay, I won't take up anymore of your time. Just wanted to brag a little while I feel accomplished, haha. Next NEW shrine you'll probably see from me is Ranka Lee from Macross F... if everything works out.

Hello, fellow shrine-makers! :D I’m posting here today because I have a question that I want to ask and discuss with all of you, but first a little history on how this question came to my mind.

A friend of mine has recently introduced me to the Scott Pilgrim comic/graphic novel/book/whatever-you-want-to-call-it series, obviously thinking that I would like it (since I am a geek and I am into video games). Well… I read them all and I honestly couldn’t say if I like them or not. Some bits of the story and some characters sometimes make me cringe, but I can kinda see a more serious side of this series as well, which I like.

Recently, in an attempt to find something to dedicate a little shrine to without having to read 10/20+ volumes of a manga or watch 100+ episodes of an anime, I considered making a shrine to this series — I’d have plenty of content to write, especially about the characters and the relationships between them. The series is not very long, it’s just 6 novels the size of a normal tankobon, I’ve read them three times already (in order to decide whether I like this series or not — unfortunately it didn’t quite work, as I’m still confused) and even if I needed more info, it would take less than an hour to read each book.

However, the only problem I see with this idea is — I don’t know if I like the series 100% and I’m afraid the shrine might “suffer” because of that. As I said, this series does sometimes annoy me, although it’s just some aspects that annoy me. If I made this shrine, though, I wouldn’t be focusing on the parts that I enjoyed less, but rather on the more serious aspects of the series and the characters. However, sometimes the characters themselves act in a way that I don’t like at all and it kind of worries me, because I don’t want any of my shrines to have any type of “bashing” in them. I wouldn’t really bash the characters anyway, because I’m against all forms of bashing, but I would probably end up pointing out the things that I think are “bad” about them, or what could have been improved about them (and the series in general), in my humble opinion, of course. However, I would be pointing out the good things, too, and I’d try to be as objective towards the characters as possible — my opinions might just go under a separate section to avoid confusion and possible death threats from fans of the series /shot.

But all shrines are somewhat based on people’s opinions of a certain series or character, or the way they perceived said character or aspect of the series, right? So should I even worry about my opinions being in my own shrine just so I don’t upset possible hardcore fans? As long as I support my statements and opinions with my reasons, then that shouldn’t be a problem, right? Also, I think one of reasons people make shrines/fansites is because they want to show other people what they think about the subject of their site, and I kind of want a place of my own where I can discuss and write all my opinions about this series, as weird as it may sound. (Just to repeat or clarify, this series has both aspects that I like and that I don’t like, though I would never turn it into a “bashing” site of sorts, or a place for me to “destroy” the series or its fans — that is not, and never will be, my intention with any of the sites I make. If anything, me pointing out the things I din’t like or felt like could have been done better will just be a bit of my humble criticism.)

It’s the first time I feel like this — like I want to make a shrine, but I’m not sure if it’s a good idea — and I’m kind of worried I will end up making a “bad” shrine because of that. So, my questions are — have you ever felt like this before — like you thought a shrine about a series/character would have lots of (hopefully “good”) content and essays that you wanted to write, but still weren’t sure (for whatever reason) that you should make the shrine at all? What did/do/would you do in that case? Do you think shrines should be objective, subjective, or a mixture of both? What if there’s an aspect of a subject you’re making a shrine for that you don’t like, but still want to write your opinion on it? Do you think you’d be comfortable making a shrine to something that had aspects you didn’t like? Or would you just not make the shrine at all for fear of seeming like you’re “bashing” that subject (even though it’s not at all your intention)? Do you think a shrine basically reflects (or should reflect) the opinions and thoughts of the person that made it? Does making a shrine without your own opinions and your own essays on a certain subject refrain you from making said shrine in the first place?

Some of these questions might have been already asked in the past. If that’s the case, then I apologise for writing them again. Also, any advice on my situation is very appreciated! ♥ :)

Hey, everyone! I have some news regarding the mod team here at Amassment. Daphne, who has been with us for a couple years, has decided to step down from modding. While this is sad news, we know Daphne has a lot of good things going for her right now in real life, and we know we'll see her here at Amassment and in the fansite community in the future. So this isn't really goodbye, despite what our graphic implies, lol.

Thanks, Daphne!

We wanted to put something special together for Daphne in honor of the work she's done for us. Our messages are below. Feel free to leave any messages of your own in comments to this post. <3

Thanks for everything, Daphne. <3

Members, we have no immediate plans to replace Daphne, though we are working on forming teams to staff Amassment. Refer to my last post for more details, and if you haven't put in an application yet, and are interested in helping us out, please leave one! Thanks to everyone who has sent in an app so far. We'll be getting with you guys soon. As always, if you have any concerns, issues, questions, or needs, feel free to contact myself, Masao, Varen, Destinie, or Ava. :)

Amassment has been running strong for almost four years now. Over the past few years, we went from just Masao, me, and some of our close friends, to around 150 members. We went from just a simple LJ community to something huge – with a directory, events, monthly awards, a message board, and more, we've become the go-to place for support and interaction for shrine-makers, and we love it. We want to continue maintaining a community you guys can rely on, have fun at, and hopefully gain motivation from for future shrines. We want to keep being active, and we want to keep growing and adapting to what you guys want and need, and we have a lot planned for the future. That brings me to the point of this post. We need your help!

With Amassment growing, and with the lives of our mods becoming busier (as all of our lives get busier with work, school, etc), some of the basic tasks that are necessary for our community to stay active have been getting neglected. Memes and activities have been posted less frequently. Shrines haven't been updated or posted to the directory as quickly as they could be. The message boards have kind of died down because we haven't been active there... We're looking to form teams that can help with the different parts of Amassment.

Mods will contact you to discuss your availability, the specific areas you will be working on, any questions we might have, etc., before selection takes place. Thanks in advance for your applications. You guys are all awesome. <3

Here's a fun meme first done in 2008, and then again in 2010. It was originally made by Airi and Lorelei. I think it's something fun we should do every couple of years, as our networks evolve, and we get new members.

Comment with a button or banner linking to your collective/domain and people will respond with:

❶ Which current site of yours they like best and why
❷ Which upcoming site of yours they anticipate most and why

If you don't have future projects listed on your domain, you can list the sites you're currently working on or planning in the comment with your collective. Also, a lot of people like to keep their upcoming projects secret, so if you don't feel like listing upcoming sites, tell people to leave off the second part.
